About
Colourful and stylish jewellery to brighten your world whilst helping to reduce waste.
Independent Jewellery Designer
The Hummingbird Archives is a Sheffield based jewellery brand who create colourful, eye catching and uplifting pieces from leather offcuts. Utilising geometric shapes and bold colours to create fun and striking pieces.
Taking inspiration from retro colour palettes, interior design and nature the pieces can be worn as a statement item or as part of a maximalist look. Some of the designs are very bright and bold and others more minimal. The products appeal to a wide range of people with different styles and tastes who are united by a love of colour and fun.
The pieces are really lightweight and comfortable to wear yet also strong and long lasting. All the metal hooks, chains and fastenings are stainless steel so they do not irritate and are good for people with allergies. The leathers used are off cuts which not only reduces waste but also means there is a limited amount of each colour. This keeps things fresh and exciting as the products are made in small batches and means some pieces are unique. Custom colour-ways and bespoke pieces are also available.
There will often be one off pieces for sale but if you would like to have a chat about having a bespoke piece designed then please do get in touch here.

Colourful Statement Jewellery
The process starts with a batch of off-cuts arriving from one of our leather suppliers. They are a mixture of bookbinders, handbag makers and leather wholesalers. Unpacking the leathers is exciting, as you never quite know what’s inside. Starting to play around with different colour combinations and exploring the various textures is a lot of fun.

Once a colour combination and design have been chosen, the leather will be glued together for double sided pieces then shapes are individually produced using a metal cutter and leather press. With the necklaces, they are either cut with a knife, in the case of the triangle designs, or sometimes with a cutting machine. Then the pieces have the necessary holes punched before being coated on the edges with a leather sealant. This not only protects the leather but also makes the pieces more sturdy so they dangle nicely.
Next, the products are assembled using stainless steel fastenings. It’s a hardwearing metal that doesn’t tarnish and is suitable for most people, as there is a very low risk of irritation.
All orders are packaged carefully in tissue paper and dispatched in a letterbox-sized cardboard box. The packaging is entirely plastic-free and recyclable.

Jewellery & Ordering FAQs
Frequently asked questions about our jewellery and ordering
What are your shipping options?
The two main options are Royal Mail Tracked 24 or Tracked 48 depending on how quickly you need to get your order. These options mean the products are insured in case of loss or damage. If you would like an alternative delivery method please get in touch via email to discuss this.
Is the jewellery suitable for people with metal allergies?
The metal on all of our jewellery is stainless steel. This is usually a good option for people with metal allergies. Many of our customers who have reactions to other metals find our jewellery very comfortable and doesn’t irritate them. It also doesn’t tarnish and is hardwearing.
Do you offer overseas delivery?
We currently only send orders within the UK but are exploring overseas shipping options so watch this space. If you live outside the UK and would like to order then please get in touch and we can see what we can do.
Do you offer custom or bespoke orders?
Yes, custom orders are very welcome! If you have a specific colour combination or design in mind, drop us a message to discuss things further.
What materials are used in The jewellery?
The pieces are made using high-quality leather offcuts, sourced from other makers and discarded remnants. This approach reduces waste and gives new life to beautiful materials. A leather sealant is used on the edges to give a smooth and durable finish. Most designs also include metal components with hypoallergenic findings and some have painted details.
How should I care for my jewellery?
To keep your jewellery looking its best, store it hanging up or flat in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid contact with water, perfumes, or oils. A gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth is usually enough to clean leather and painted surfaces.
